The evil Death Adder and his soldiers have invaded every village in Yuria, and thousands have been slaughtered. The King and his daughter have been kidnapped. You have the task of defeating Death Adder!

This conversion of the coin-op is a two player sideways scrolling beat-em up where you can choose between 3 characters to defeat the evil Death Adder. You can choose between Ax Battler (Barbarian), Tyris Flare (Amazon)and Gillius Thunderhead (Dwarf). Ax is the average character of the group, Tyris is the quickest, magic damage being high, but strength is sadly lacking. Gillius is the strongest, but his magic ability is the weakest of the three. Magic potions are collected on the journey (take your frustrations out on the thieves!) to allow you to use magic attacks, and you can hitch a ride on various beasts to make killing that little bit more varied.

Graphics are quite close to the arcade parent, but the shouts of arcade perfect when this was released are wide of the mark. The reduced colour palette stands out as a negative, and for me the bodies of defeated foes disappearing also annoys. Leaving out the starting sequence when the villager walks towards your character all beat up is also a shame. Still, a good effort on Sega's part.

The main medieval tune is worthy of a mention, as is the first level music. Theres great pleasure in the noise made when kicking the thieves!

A good conversion of an excellent coin-op. Along with The Revenge Of Shinobi this game made me buy an import Megadrive.
